Terms of Service
Last updated: July 2026 · Draft — pending formal legal review before public launch.
These Terms govern your use of astroreader.app and the AstroReader app (app.astroreader.app). By creating an account or using AstroReader, you agree to these Terms.
1. What AstroReader is
AstroReader is an independent, self-funded reading tool that translates astrophysics research (from sources like arXiv and Nature) into plain-language summaries at three depths of detail. AstroReader is currently in beta — features, pricing, and availability may change.
2. Accounts
You need an account to receive Weekly Digest issues and access reading features. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account. You must provide a valid email address and be old enough to legally use online services in your jurisdiction.
3. Beta status & no warranty
AstroReader is provided "as is" during beta, with no guarantee of uptime, accuracy, or continued availability of any specific feature. Translated summaries are generated with AI assistance and may occasionally be incomplete or imprecise — always refer to the original source paper (linked from every summary) for anything requiring certainty.
4. Free and paid tiers
AstroReader currently offers a free tier. Paid tiers (Pro, Academic) are planned but no credit card or payment is collected during beta. When billing launches, updated terms covering subscriptions, cancellation, and refunds will be presented separately before any charge occurs.
5. Acceptable use
Don't use AstroReader to scrape, resell, or redistribute translated content at scale, attempt to disrupt the service, or use it in a way that violates the terms of the underlying content sources (arXiv, Nature, etc.) or our third-party providers (including Anthropic's usage policies).
6. Content ownership
Original papers remain the property of their respective authors/publishers — AstroReader only provides a translated summary layer and always links back to the source. Your account data (preferences, saved settings) belongs to you; see our Privacy Policy for how it's handled.
7. Termination
You can stop using AstroReader and request account deletion at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or misuse the service.
8. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the product evolves, especially once billing launches. Material changes will be noted here.
